Masseter Treatment · Dallas, TX

Masseter Botox in Dallas, TX

For jaw clenching, grinding, TMJ discomfort, and a heavier lower face. Neurotoxin injected into the masseter muscle relaxes it, which relieves the pressure and softens the jawline over time. Performed by Jessica Boggs, APRN. From $12 per unit.

By Appointment

Relief, or the Jawline. Often Both.

Patients arrive for one of two reasons, and the treatment is the same. What differs is how we dose it and what we tell you to expect.

Reason One
It hurts

You wake with a sore jaw. You catch yourself clenching at your desk. You have worn through a night guard, or your dentist has mentioned wear on your molars. Maybe headaches that start at the temples.

Relief usually comes first, before any visible change. Clenching usually eases within two weeks, well before the muscle looks different.

Reason Two
It is square

Years of clenching build the masseter the way any muscle responds to work. The result is a wider, heavier lower face that no amount of weight loss changes, because it is muscle rather than fat.

Slimming takes longer. The muscle reduces from disuse over 6 to 12 weeks, so this is not a quick result. It is a real one.

"If your jaw is wide because of bone structure rather than muscle, this will not change it. We will tell you that at your consultation rather than after you have paid."

The Appointment

01 · Assessment

We ask you to clench so we can feel the muscle and judge its size and where it sits. That tells us your dose. We also check whether what is bothering you is actually masseter, because sometimes it is not.

02 · Injection

A few injections on each side, directly into the muscle. It takes about 15 minutes. Patients describe it as easier than they expected, and no numbing is usually needed.

03 · The first two weeks

Clenching and jaw soreness typically ease within 7 to 14 days. Some people notice chewing feels different with tough foods for the first week or two, which settles.

04 · The slimming, if that is your goal

Visible narrowing develops over 6 to 12 weeks as the muscle reduces. A second treatment at around 3 to 4 months is usual to hold and build on it.

Priced Per Unit, Like Any Neurotoxin.

The masseter needs more units than a forehead because it is a large, strong muscle. Typical treatment runs 20 to 30 units per side depending on muscle size, so the usual range is between $480 and $840 with Botox, or less with other products.

Your provider gives you the unit count and the total at your consultation, before anything is injected.

What you should know before booking

Masseter treatment is an off-label use of neurotoxin. Botulinum toxins are FDA-approved for glabellar lines, crow's feet, forehead lines, and severe underarm hyperhidrosis. Injection into the masseter for clenching, TMJ discomfort, or facial slimming is off-label, which is legal and common when supported by clinical judgment and informed consent.

Individual response varies and no specific result can be promised. Slimming depends on how much of your lower face width is muscle rather than bone, and that differs between people. If bone structure is the main contributor, this treatment will not change it.

Treatment eligibility is determined at your consultation and good faith exam. Neurotoxins are not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with certain neuromuscular conditions. This is not a treatment for a TMJ joint disorder. If your problem is the joint rather than the muscle, you need a dentist or an oral and maxillofacial specialist, and we will tell you so.

All pricing is confirmed at your consultation and depends on the product and units required. Prices are subject to change. Navara Health is a cash-pay practice and does not bill insurance. Financing is available through Cherry, and HSA and FSA are accepted for eligible services. See all neurotoxin services on our Botox and neurotoxins page.

What Patients Ask Most

How many units will I need?
Typically 20 to 30 units per side, depending on how large and strong your masseter is. that puts the usual range between $480 and $840 with Botox, and less with other products. Your provider assesses the muscle by having you clench, then gives you the number and the total before anything is injected.
How long before my jaw stops hurting?
Relief usually comes within within 7 to 14 days. Relief comes well before any visible change to the shape of your face, so if pain is why you came in, you will know whether it is working long before the slimming shows.
How long until my face looks slimmer?
Six to twelve weeks, because the muscle reduces from disuse rather than from anything we inject. A second treatment at three to four months is usual to hold and build on the result. Anyone promising you a visibly slimmer jaw in two weeks is describing something that does not happen.
Will this fix my TMJ?
It depends on what is actually wrong. If your discomfort comes from muscle overuse and clenching, relaxing the masseter often helps a great deal. If the problem is the joint itself, including disc displacement or arthritic change, this is not the right treatment and we will tell you so rather than take your money. You would need a dentist or an oral and maxillofacial specialist.
Will it change how I chew or smile?
Chewing tough or chewy food may feel different for the first week or two, then settles. Your smile is not affected, because the masseter is a chewing muscle and not an expression muscle. Placement matters here, which is why this is not a treatment to shop on price alone.
Does it work if my jaw is wide from bone rather than muscle?
No. Neurotoxin only affects muscle. If the width of your lower face comes mainly from your mandible, this will not narrow it, and we will say so at your consultation rather than after you have paid. Patients are usually some combination of both, and your provider can tell you roughly how much of yours is muscle by feeling it while you clench.
Do I need a good faith exam?
Yes, before your first treatment. It is $30, required under Texas law, renewed once a year, and it covers aesthetics, IV therapy, and injections rather than being charged each visit. Navara Health is appointment only, so it needs its own slot. Call ahead and we can usually do the exam and your treatment in one visit.
Is this covered by insurance?
No. Navara Health is a cash-pay practice and does not bill insurance. Because masseter treatment is off-label, insurers rarely cover it even at practices that do bill. HSA and FSA funds are frequently eligible, and financing is available through Cherry.
